Catalan Trial - Day 7 of independence trial - Cuixart and Forcadell give their testimony
Pro-independence activist Jordi Cuixart and former parliament speaker Carme Forcadell. These two key defendants gave their testimonies on the seventh day of the Catalan trial, here in Spain’s Supreme Court.
Cuixart is the president of Òmnium, a grassroots group with 140,000 members. His role during the independence referendum, and the demonstrations that preceded it, is in the spotlight, with prosecutors accusing him of violent rebellion. He dismissed all accusations, defended civil disobedience, and denounced attacks on the right to protest.
As the parliament speaker, Forcadell allowed referendum laws to be passed in the chamber, as well as the subsequent declaration of independence—all deemed as illegal by Spanish courts. Forcadell claims she defended freedom of expression by allowing parliamentary debates.
